Hero Lt. Daniel Gajou, Wildlife Officer

Born in South Sudan City and he was a citizen of Central Equatoria State (CES) of Monderi ethnicity. He completed his high school in Juba. He was married and has children. His next of kin is Hon. Joseph Kulang, former Minister of CES government.

SGT. Khamis Alili, Policeman

Born in Southern Sudan, he was a citizen of Western Equatoria State (WES) of Moru ethnicity. In 1980s, he joined Sudan Police Force (SPF) and worked as driver for General Al-Haja Kamyangin, Director General of Police during the post Kokora era. He was a people person.

Hero Mr. Taban Elisa

Born in Juba city, he was citizen of Centre Equatoria State (CES) of Kuku ethnicity. He had lived with his parents at Kator West residential area near the cathedral.

His academic journey started in ??? and and he earned diploma in the Air Navigation Service which provides Sudan and South Sudan Air Navigation Services and Meteorological Services for all operators within Sudanese Airspace. He trained in Khartoum as Air Traffic Controller specialized in drones.

His professional career started at Khartoum Airport where he worked as Air Traffic Controller and transferred to Juba Airport where he assumed position of Senior Manager of Juba Airport.

He was engaged to Mrs. Rita Luka Kenyi, was about to get married at the time of his arrest and from that day nothing was heard about him. It was obvious, he was killed during the same week he was arrested. Taban was arrested alongside his colleague on the allegation that he was spying for the SPLA, reporting on arrivals landing and take-off of flights to and from Juba airport. He was loved by everyone, a people person who helped many during the difficult time of travel to Khartoum.

Hero Col. Daniel Kenyi, Police Officer

Born in Juba city, he was a citizen of Central Equatoria State (CES), of Bari ethnicity. He attended Rumbek High School and earned a diploma in Police and Law enforcement studies from the Police Academy in Khartoum. He was very smart man, clean and connected well with people.

Hero Capt. Wondo Robert Yona Bojo, Wildlife Officer

Born in Southern Sudan, he was a citizen of Central Equatoria State (CES), of Kuku ethnicity. His early primary school was in Kajo Kaji, followed by junior school in Torit and he completed high school in Rumbek in 1976. He went on to join the University of Juba. He earned a degree in natural resources Sciences and attended further Wildlife studies in Nairobi, Kenya.

He was married, with three children. Currently his wife is living in a refugee camp in Uganda at the time of arrest.

Yona was a very sociable person, easygoing and taking extra care with people he did not know. His personality is very calm and introverted.

He was very professional individual; however, he gets angry very fast. He followed Southern Sudan politics very well. He was very close and trusted friend of Dr. Josephson Mogga,M.D. and shared his fears about all them being accused by the Sudanese Army leadership as SPLA collaborators. In addition to this, there was growing mistrust between Southern Sudanese Officers serving in Juba and that resulted in toxic relations with the Sudanese Army.

On the night of July 5th, 1992, their headquarters received heavy shelling by tanks stationed at Juba Airport, some of their Officers were already killed by the Khartoum regime soldiers and among them was a Wildlife Officer who was manager of late Hon. Gajuk Wurnyang Lupaya, former minister of health in Juba.

Hero Robert anticipated an attack of the Wildlife forces or arrest. On the night of July 6th, 1992, he tried to escape Juba via Jebel Kujur west of Juba, but unfortunately, he fell into the hands of government soldiers at a post behind Jebel Kujur. With him was Hillary Duku, former Director General in ministry of finance who escaped with him was lucky to dodge arrest and disappeared in the bush. Reliable reports stated that Capt. Robert was summarily brutally killed after severe tortures by Col. Samshadin. On the same evening of his arrest his body was dumped across the River Nile towards Gumbo.

Hero Col. James Peter Duling (known as Abdu-Allah), Wildlife Officer

Was born in Juba city, he was citizen of Centre Equatoria State (CES) & member of Yangwara ethnicity. He academic journey started in Juba, Uganda, Tanzania. He joined Wildlife and earned diploma in Wildlife Sciences and Animal Protection Law and further studies in Tanzania. He was the first cohort of Wildlife Officers graduated from the College of African Wildlife Management (CAWM), Mweka is the leading institution in professional and technical training in Wildlife and Tourism. He was Director of Wildlife and Tourism after BGen. Henry Maniga and was arrested in Torit before his relocation to Juba. He was married and has children currently in Juba.


Hero Capt. Pompeo Abdallah, Wildlife Officer

Born in Juba city, he was a citizen of Eastern Equatoria State (EES), of Ma’adi ethnicity. His academic journey started in Juba and was the first insignia (???) of Wildlife graduates in the post Kokora period. He was a fine arts specialist and designer of Sabra Wildlife Newspaper published in English in Juba.
